Draft Environmental Assessment for Buoy Recovery
Available for Public Comment

In early November 2015, an adrift National Weather Service (NWS) buoy stranded on Neva Shoal, southeast of Lisianski Island, in the federal waters of PMNM. The buoy and an unknown amount of mooring chain and line are in about 40 feet of water. The buoy is 10 feet in diameter, 18 feet high, and weighs 3,000 lbs. NWS has contracted a salvage company to retrieve the buoy and mooring chain and line from Neva Shoal and return the equipment to Honolulu. In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a Draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed action has been completed and is posted here for public comment.
