In September of 2011, multimedia reporter Oscar Valenzuela accompanied a group of 20 scientists on an annual research expedition to Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. Through the collection of video and still photo images, as well as oral interviews with scientists on board the ship and in the field, Valenzuela was able to capture a fascinating glimpse into the world of research in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Alongside scientists and crew, Valenzuela participated in nightly planning meetings, safety drills, and daily boat operations in order provide the public with a rare glimpse of the field operations in the remote atolls of Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
